What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a practice that enhances a person's ability to be present with one's self. As a psychotherapist, I have witnessed the positive results of combining mindfulness techniques with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This combination provides client's with multiple tools to address symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, as well as other mood states. Additionally, I use several different models for working towards sobriety and maintaining recovery. Mindfulness practice is an approach that works with adolescents as well as adults.

I am credentialed as both a Certified Addiction Specialist and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II. For the past 20 years I have worked with both adults and adolescents who are dealing with the misuse or abuse of alcohol and other drugs (AOD). My work includes working with Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA), adults struggling with abuse or addiction' and working with adolescents who are dealing with parental substance abuse. I have presented over 300 classroom presentations in both high schools and middle school, as well as well as professional presentations related to risk factors related to substance misuse, abuse and addiction.
As a Psychotherapist and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, I provide therapeutic sessions for individuals (with family sessions as needed). Currently my private sessions are as a contractor providing telemed behavior health. My clinical approach in therapy is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) combined with Mindfulness Practice. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the premise that our thoughts strongly “influence” our feelings and behaviors. Sessions may include identifying thinking errors and automatic negative thoughts while leaning how to self regulate emotions. Learning to change thoughts can influence our emotions, perceptions and behaviors. Additionally, I incorporate a Mindfulness Practice to provide the client the opportunity to be more present in their day-to-day and moment-to-moment experiences which has resulted in positive outcomes. With a combination of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness Practice clients are better equipped to address anxiety, stress, depression, grief and loss, trauma as well as, life transitions.
